STAR WARS: EPISODES VII, viii, ix - COMING 2015
George Lucas and Adam Horner (chairman of Disney)

That's right. The rumors are true. There will be a Star Wars: Episode VII, and Episodes VIII and IX at intervals of "two or three years". On October 30, 2012, Disney purchased Lucasfilm Ltd. for $4.05 million.
CEO of Lucasfilm, George Lucas, said this in a statement: “For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next. It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime. I’m confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come. Disney’s reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products.”
George Lucas is retiring, and passing the reins to the co-chairman (now the president) Kathleen Kennedy. Kennedy has been the producer of literally every Steven Spielberg movie, including all of the Indiana Jones movies (also created by George Lucas). Kathleen Kennedy will helm all of Lucasfilm Ltd., but will report to Adam Horner.
Star Wars: Episode 7 is slated for a release in 2015, meaning that Disney will be releasing The Avengers 2 and Star Wars 7 in the same year. As if Disney wasn't a big enough company without owning Marvel and Pixar, they now own Lucasfilm.
However, as far as the plot of this movie, we know absolutely nothing. With Episode 7, we can assume that it takes place after the events of Return of the Jedi. But whether or not it will dip into the extended universe or feature the return of favorite characters (like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, C-3P0, and R2-D2) is still unknown.
My theory on this Star Wars "Sequel Trilogy" is that after the Prequel Trilogy and the CG-animated Clone Wars movie and TV show, Star Wars can't sink any lower. Don't get me wrong, I am one of the few people that liked the Prequels (and I can partially, PARTIALLY stand the Clone Wars), but even I have to admit that they weren't as good as the originals. On the whole though, these films were received to primarily mixed and negative reviews. But I think that Disney can pick up this franchise and put it back on it's feet again. Also, they aren't getting rid of George Lucas completely (there's no way they could do that), but are instead keeping him on as creative consultant and giving the film to fresh, new hands as Lucas stated before.
As for what I would like in the movie, I personally would like to see the return of Luke Skywalker and company. And not a recast, either. I want 70 year old Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, etc. I also wouldn't mind seeing movies based off of the Timothy Zahn novels. Seeing Mara Jade onscreen (Luke Skywalker's love interest in the books) would be great.
I guess the real question is who should direct the movie. at Zap2It, they speculated on who should direct it. However, they gave names like David Benioff & D.B. Weiss (creators of Game of Thrones), Vince Gilligan (creator of Breaking Bad), Jon Favreau (director of the first two Iron Man movies), Seth Green (creator of the Robot Chicken SW parody), Seth MacFarlane (creator of the Family Guy SW parody), and David Yates (director of Harry Potter 5-7 Part II). I personally think that these candidates range from bad to just terrible. However, they did name a few with merit, like Joss Whedon (director of Avengers, Serenity and it's TV show Firefly), J.J. Abrams (the 2009 Star Trek movie), Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty), and Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy movies, Pan's Labyrinth). But, I think Kathryn Bigelow and Guillermo del Toro would be mediocre at best. J.J. Abrams might be okay, but I think the Trekkies might not be too keen to that. Joss Whedon would be excellent, but he's busy working on The Avengers 2, and I want him to take his time to make that one good.
I think the best choice would have to be Christopher Nolan.

He just got finished with his Dark Knight trilogy, and was very clear that he wouldn't be making any more Batman movies. With this suddenly empty plate, why not fill it with Star Wars? Nolan has certainly proven his mettle as a director, and he really takes his time to make movies great (he didn't have a Second Unit on The Dark Knight Rises, he personally oversaw every single shot of that movie to make sure it was up to par with his high standards). But, the best bit of all is this - Nolan's a Star Wars fan. He cites the original Star Wars as being one of his favorite movies. I just think that the movies would be sure to turn out great if he directed them.
I think it's pretty obvious what I don't want to see.
